5 Hashtag Tips To Take Your Business To The Next Level On Instagram

Hashtags are weird, confusing, and overwhelming. I get it, “Oh great, something else I have to worry about on social media!”

As a social media marketing expert, I am here to simplify this important Instagram tool that you need to be using, and using correctly. Here are my top 5 tips for hashtags on Instagram:

1. You can use a total of 30 hashtags. Use 3-5 hashtags in the post that are most relevant to your post. The rest should go in the first comment. The hashtags need to be relevant to your post.

2. Change your hashtags up. Don’t use the same hashtags on each post. Instagram will pick up on that and won’t show your posts at the top of feeds (#algorithm).

3. Store hashtags in the notes on your phone for easy access. This makes it easier to post quickly. Group them by post topic (i.e. hashtags about motherhood, hashtags about small businesses).

4. Be specific. If you are a hair stylist do not just use #hairstylist try #miamihairstylist.

5. Do not just use hashtags specific to your business. When curating hashtags, it is not necessarily about YOUR business. Hashtag curation is about your ideal client/customer. What is your target audience searching for? If you are a hair stylist, perhaps your ideal client is a Miami bride? Try #miamibride.
